I took this photo using a four-year-old Fujifilm point-and-shoot while on vacation in Maine last summer. My younger sister was playing in the waves, running out an letting them knock her over. It makes me think of simple joys and things that we forget as we age, such as running free and wild and letting our spirits soar.
It's everything to me. It's my lifeblood. I was born into a family of thinkers, engineers, artists, writers, actors...for as long as I can remember I've seen connections between all things through creativity. Creative thought is like a spine. Without it, innovation and invention would be nonexistent. Individuality would be lost. Self expression would be impossible. Imagination would be null and void. But one single spark of creativity can change a mind, change a life, or even change the world. It brings life to light, and light to life.
I love how many things it makes possible. Whether I'm taking photos, drawing, painting, or writing, I can do whatever I desire. I can create whatever I want. I can make the unreal real, and bring the dead back to life. I can make people dance on the moon or have tigers breath fire. It fills me with this tingling fire and makes me feel awake, and alive.

What’s most striking to me is the use of dark space; the subject is half shadowed in sharp dark patches, the foreground has a texture rich darkness with crisp foam wisps giving the shallow water depth, while the immediate background has an elusive perspective fading to infinity in the dark horizon. Conversely most of the detail is shown in bright light on the glimmering ripples, crests and foam of the sea. These layers of contrast give depth to the black white and grey providing richness reminiscent of Ansel Adams work portraying natural majesty.

Amazing picture for a Point-and-Shoot camera. Makes me feel like I am there too, with clarity and depth of focus to see forever in the distance.

Awesome picture Carrie! Love the contrast between the wave and the rest of the ocean.
